Siemens is partnering with ventureLAB to bring their unique set of services to the Hardware Catalyst Initiative (HCI)! By providing their Xcelerator portfolio, which includes mechanical and electronic design as well as other high standard software to support innovation in participants. They’ll be able to further support vital Canadian tech startups and scaleups while reducing the time to market. As the only hardware and semiconductor incubator in Canada, hardware-focused startups are looking to ventureLAB and the HCI for support making their skill set highly valuable.
A new data center is coming to Markham, York Region with Cologix opening a 50K SQFT and 10 MW of power at their TOR4 hyperscale data center. In the new work from home environment digital connection and cloud capacity have become everyday needs and this data center will assist companies in those efforts. As Canada’s second largest tech hub, new investments like these continue to highlight the strength of the Region’s technology sector.

Students from Richmond Hill won big at the VEX Robotics World Championship, the largest robotics competition in the world! Two teams competed, both placing in the top divisions. One of the teams took home the very impressive “Build Award,” meaning they created the best built robot in the world! This is incredibly impressive considering the hardships the pandemic has puts students through. It’s an example of what can be done through hard work, innovation, and community support. York Region-based tech companies take many approaches to growth, for the companies below and many others, acquisitions are one method. Discover some of the most recent tech acquisitions in the #YRtech community.
Richmond Hill headquartered cloud hosting provider, Carbon60, has acquired OpsGuru, a Vancouver based multi-cloud and DevOps consultancy. This acquisition will push forward the company’s growth across Canada as a Canadian multi-cloud transformation and managed services organization.
Digitcom Telecommunications, a Markham headquartered digital service provider, has acquired 6Telecom a Quebec-based telecoms solution provider. This acquisition expands Digitcom’s network reach into Eastern Canada and the greater Montreal area.
Markham headquartered software solutions provider Enghouse Systems has acquired Netherlands-based Nebu BV, a market research and data analytics provider. The addition of their new software and cloud services allows researchers to get more in depth understandings of consumer behaviors, increasing quality of service, and expanding the company’s global reach.
