Success Story: Harmony House Wellness

Christine Moran spent her whole life helping others. After moving to Newmarket from Orillia over 25 years ago, she dedicated her life to raising her two children. But shortly after moving to Newmarket, her youngest child was diagnosed with Autism. For years she worked various jobs that would allow her the time to take her son to various appointments, day in and day out. But once her son was in high school, she decided to take some time to help herself.

With a lifelong interest in healthy food and natural medicine, Christine began studying nutrition and homeopathy. She started working as a Holistic Nutritionist and Homeopath, and after five years she was ready for a change. “After practicing in Newmarket, I decided that it was time to expand from a solo practice to a fully integrated clinic,” Christine said. “I came to the YSBEC for guidance and wanted to learn what was required to open a business and what services were available to help me.”

With some help, she launched Harmony House Wellness – a practice that offers a variety of services including naturopathic medicine, clinical psychology, registered holistic nutrition, homeopathy and more. Christine believes the YSBEC and its programs were a big help: “The YSBEC gave me full support and guidance by helping me find a suitable business location and provided opportunities to promote my business,” she said. “Most importantly, the YSBEC walked me through a step-by-step process of creating a business plan, and helped me understand how fundamental the business plan is to the growth and success of my business.”

Today, Harmony House Wellness is on an upward trend and growing quickly. After opening her doors in January 2019, she has welcomed a naturopathic doctor and a clinical psychologist to her team. She has also entered into agreements with various workplace wellness programs, helping diversify her revenue. “We provide workshops, lunch and learns, and other programs to promote healthy eating and overall health and wellness, especially for first responders and shift workers,” Christine said. “Our programs are designed to help people improve their well-being through stress management, healthy eating and lifestyle changes.”

When asked what her future goals are, Christine says the sky is the limit, “Our fundamental goal is to provide affordable healthcare options to the public and increase workplace health and wellness.” To that end, she notes that continued growth is fundamental to her success: “We are working to expand to include a greater variety of professionals, both traditional and conventional that will work as a collaborative team.”
