Toronto Area's York Region

York Region Municipalities

York Region’s diversity is evident in our nine local municipalities, which offer big-city urban vibes to smaller suburban and rural communities. All of them offer unique and sought-after quality of life for every lifestyle! Information and links to our cities and towns are provided below.

About The Regional Municipality of York

Just as Canada is made up of 13 provinces and territories, York Region is made up of nine cities and towns located in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and stretches north from Toronto to Lake Simcoe and includes many hectares of protected Greenbelt.

Organized as a two-tier municipal government structure, The Regional Municipality of York is responsible for providing services to all regional residents and businesses, while each local municipality provides additional services. Public transit, water management, emergency medical services and policing are handled by York Region, while waste and recycling collection, parks and recreation, libraries and others are the responsibility of the city or town. Economic development within the Region is a collaborative effort.

Our team and the local municipal economic development offices support the local business community and continue to promote the Region as the place where talent and opportunity intersect to attract new businesses and talent to come here.
