Alistair Johnston is, self-admittedly, a late bloomer.

There may be a correlation between the arrival of the 23-year-old defender from Aurora to the national team in January and its push toward the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Sure, he is just part of the big puzzle, but there is no denying defending the goal has been a big part of Canada’s emergence as a CONCACAF threat.
