Newmarket – Development and population indicators highlighted in The Growth and Development Review 2016 report show York Region remains competitive and ranks within the top 10 municipalities in Canada in a number of key economic areas, including construction values and the housing market.
In 2016, York Region’s population grew by 20,500 people, increasing an estimated 1.8 per cent to 1,186,900. The Region’s economy also added 15,100 new jobs.
“York Region’s employment growth is outpacing the provincial and national averages, and we continue to demonstrate strong growth in population, construction and the housing market,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “This growth is providing jobs and housing opportunities, as well as encouraging new businesses, individuals and families to live and work in our thriving communities.”
