York Region’s Innovators | Launching SpaceRyde Into Space
In partnership with the Financial Post, we’ve developed a new series, Dream Big(ger): York Region’s Innovators, to highlight innovative companies and people in York Region. Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing these stories to showcase our robust local innovation ecosystem and the inspiring people who work in it.
In our next piece, we’re featuring Sohrab Haghighat and Saharnaz Safari of SpaceRyde.
Based on technology that makes getting out of Earth’s lower atmosphere a lot less polluting than traditional methods, and getting into space a lot less expensive, SpaceRyde uses high-altitude balloons to float its rockets above 99% of the atmosphere.

Loblaw Breaks Ground on East Gwillimbury’s Largest Employment Development
You may have noticed a huge amount of earth being moved on Woodbine Avenue in East Gwillimbury. Loblaw Companies Ltd. officially broke ground Aug. 19 on the 1.2-million-sq.-ft. advanced logistics and distribution centre located on Woodbine Avenue.

The hub-and-spoke office model pushes companies to reconsider a single central location and instead have a primary head office with smaller ‘spoke’ locations placed closer to where employees live. Giving staff the option to come into the office with more accessibility and comfort.

Register for the 2022 Agri-Food Forum
Last year York Region hosted the Agri-Food Forum, and this year we’re excited to see the County of Brant co-hosting the 14th annual 2022 Municipal Agriculture Economic Development and Planning Forum with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs!
This year’s theme is ‘Tradition, Innovation and Regeneration’. At the forum, explore County of Brant farms and agricultural businesses that embrace technology, new crops, entrepreneurship and environmental stewardship. This is a great opportunity to learn, network and share experiences with stakeholders from across Ontario.
