Ontario Investing $100 Million to Help Tourism Sector Rebound From COVID-19

The Ontario government is investing $100 million through the new Tourism Recovery Program to help stabilize the province’s tourism industry as it recovers from the impacts of COVID-19. The program will help for-profit tourism businesses in the attraction, accommodation, and leisure travel sectors protect critical jobs in communities and help them prepare to reopen and safely welcome back visitors. Lumon Production Completes $1.5 Million Upgrade to Facility in Vaughan

On the 9th of September 2021, Lumon Production NA Inc. celebrated its grand opening in Canada after major investments in the production and supply chain processes, including its own glass fabrication line and new machinery. 2021 Agri-Food Forum Hosted By York Region

The 2021 Municipal Agriculture Economic Development & Planning Forum is being hosted virtually by The Regional Municipality of York in collaboration with Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and local municipalities from November 3 to 4, 2021. 

This year’s theme is Innovation and Resiliency in the Agri-Food Sector, focused on agri-tech, entrepreneurship, exploring innovative ways of doing business and building a resilient agri-food sector in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a great opportunity for those with an interest in regional and local economic development and land use planning to learn, network and share experiences.

Minimum Wage Increased

Minimum Wage Increase in Ontario | October 1, 2021

Ontario’s minimum wage increased on October 1. Under the Making Ontario Open for Business Act this increase is tied to the Ontario Consumer Price Index for 2020. The increase to the general minimum wage is 10 cents, which brings the new rate to $14.35 an hour. READ MORE

Ontario Introduces Fall 2021 Red Tape Reduction Packagepany Entrepreneur Supporting South Asian Women’s Centre

The Ontario government continues has announced the Ontario’s Fall Red Tape Reduction Package and introduced the Supporting People and Businesses Act. If passed, this legislation will reduce, alter or eliminate various regulations in a number of industry sectors, as well as public-facing services. Examples include:

  • Proposing changes to set the groundwork for the government to allow licensed restaurants, bars and other hospitality businesses create or extend their outdoor patio spaces
  • Creating greater access to veterinarians by developing a “one-health” approach to veterinary facilities that will benefit farmers, the agri-food sector and the general public; and
  • Enabling better, faster transit in York Region
