These are exciting times in Vaughan. The city is enjoying tremendous growth. Downtown continues to take shape, and we’re thrilled that the YMCA will be a focal point of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre. As a charity with 165 years of experience in communities all over Ontario, we’ve seen first-hand how healthy growth requires an integrated approach to ensure that residents of the community stay healthy themselves. Some call it “Health by Design,” and I think that sums it up well.
As more people join our community, we need to make sure we’re giving them every piece of what we at the YMCA approach as the puzzle of health. There are many different parts that must be assembled to create the full picture. In other words, health isn’t only about diet and exercise, although those are certainly key. It’s also about feeling included; having meaningful work that gives you an income and a sense of purpose; and knowing your voice is heard.
