The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and Mobile World Congress Americas (MWCA) are two of the largest technology conferences in the world. Looking to capitalize on the global popularity of these tech-centric conferences in person and online, we set out to showcase York Region-based tech companies exhibiting and promote the broader technology ecosystem of the region that is home to over 4,300 companies.
Piggy-backing off the success of the show’s hashtags #MWCA17 and #CES2018, the technology spotlight interviews have generated significant exposure for York Region technology companies and their innovative tech including:
- 85,500 views worldwide on Facebook
- Over 433 hours of watch time
- Hundreds of social engagements (likes, clicks, shares, comments, etc.)
Done on-site during Mobile World Congress Americas 2017 in San Francisco and CES 2018 in Las Vegas the showcase of innovative technology coming out of York Region was done through a series of live interviews on York Link’s Facebook and shared across our Twitter and LinkedIn.
At the conferences we setup within the Canada Pavilion supported by the Ontario Ministry of International Trade and over the course of a couple of days interviewed 10 York Region-based technology companies from Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Aurora.
The technology from these companies that has been developed and in some cases manufactured in York Region included, but is not limited to:
- Standalone smart-watch phones
- Cellular signal amplifiers
- Athletic fitness training devices
- Smart-home building solutions
- Education software apps
- IoT messaging-to-print devices
The exposure from participating in our interviews generated additional opportunities for some of these companies to speak with other media outlets.
CES 2018 and MWCA 2017 provided a great backdrop to showcase innovative technology from a few of the 4,300 plus tech companies in Toronto area’s York Region. It was a new experience for us and for many of the companies involved, but the initiative was met with great feedback and resoundingly positive results when it was all said and done.
